Haiti Empowered Update

A Few Words From Pete..

  • The end is in sight for the 2022-2023 school season. Students in the last grade of High School (Filo) are hoping to graduate after taking a difficult test the last week in July. They will receive the results at the end of August.

  • This year we had the most students ever and prepared for significant growth in our capacity for next year.

  • The year also brought crisis and heartache as we weathered some of the most significant violence in recent history. Floods and lack of resources tested the resilience of our staff and the communities we serve.

Flood Update...

  • We so are grateful for all of the additional support received to help after the flood. We were able to provide much-needed supplies and keep sickness to a minimum.

  • We will continue to provide help based on the need by the school, as the directors know their community best. It was a really difficult time for our families and we mourn the loss of two children.

  • We are in the process of restocking medicine that is critically needed.

Climates

Despite its small sizeand sharing an island, Haiti has many diverse climate zones. Including coastal mangrove forests and dry forests where
several species of cacti grow. The country’s two national parks—La Visite and Pic Macaya—each contain tropical and pine forests.

Featuring: Jameson St. Fleur and his wife Manise Sainteron

"We have 2 children. The oldest is Jamesley St Fleur. He is 12 years old now. He is in the 6th grade. The youngest is Maniloutchie St Fleur. He is 4 years old and is in PK2 class. I was converted through the ministry of pastor Bazile and spent time in his house. I am currently responsible for the sound system in the church.

I also lead several groups in the church under the pastor. For my job, I am a high school teacher at our school in Cassange. Lady Manise St Fleur leads the ladies group in the church. She also helps Hait Empowered in so many ways as a volunteer.

Our family loves Jesus very much and loves to serve him. Lady Manise is also teacher at the high school, so we can help many students. One of my favorite songs that I like to sing is "My shepherd is a king of love, his goodness will never end". A favorite set of verses are Psalms 23. I like that chapter a lot.

I like to eat rice and beans with a special sauce. I like to eat many types of vegetables too.

Thank you for the opportunity to work for Haiti Empowered and to be a part of so much to help our community. God bless all of you".

People

My name is Rose Myrtha Durandisse. I am 23 years old. I entered the Haiti Empowered mission school in the 8th grade because my father did not have the means to pay for another school for me.

If it wasn't for the Haiti Empowered high school, I wouldn't be able to continue going to school anymore. Now I graduated from high school and my sponsor along with Haiti Empowered continues to help me with supplies and costs at the university.

I am studying to be a nurse because I like to take care of sick people. I have been able to learn from working in the clinic at Haiti Empowered. That helped me know for sure I want to be in the medical field. I have a lot of faith in God.

Journey

Due to generous giving, many children will now have a much better journey to school. For many years it has been a dream to have a bus for our schools. The cost was a challenge with so many other needs.

Imagine sending your child alone to school with all of the safety concerns and lack of reliable transportation currently in Haiti. Some might get only half way before finding there was no way to complete their trip. Others had to choose how many times a week they could afford the limited transportation.

I wish you could see the excitement of the staff and the videos parents sent thanking us.

Editor Note:
This also provides
additional jobs to drive and
maintain vehicles. Please consider
supporting the operations of this
bus.

Projects

Each High School room and walkway is braced for pouring a concrete floor on the second level. Wood is an expensive resource, but critical for this stage. Acquiring so many support posts for the rooms and walkway was no easy task.

Our construction team is preparing to pour the second floor for the High School. This is a very important project for effective learning and growth.
