Here are some effective tips to help you write to your child and encourage a response.
Letters To Children
Our preferred method for sending letters and pictures to your sponsor child is via your member login page, as this will allow for a quicker response.
You can also send letters and pictures via email to childservices@haitiempowered.org OR into our office:
@ PO Box 240432 St. Paul, MN 55124. These will be scanned and emailed to your child. Many of the children are shy about a relationship with someone from a different country. However, they will typically open up as communication continues. To help this process, you might want to include something personal about your family and ask questions that are more specific.
Questions like “What is something you like to do when you get home?”, “What is your favorite subject?”, “What makes you happy”, and “What is your favorite celebration?” will get a better response than simply “How are you?”.
The process for getting your letter to your sponsor child includes the following steps: sending the letter to Haiti, translating the letter into Creole, delivering it to the correct school, setting up a time for the child to write back, translating their response, and sending their response back to the US. Since this process is relatively extensive, please allow up to 8 weeks to receive a response from your sponsor child!
