Haiti Empowered Update

A Few Words From Pete...

While hard times persist in Haiti, there is much to be thankful for. A week of celebrating the 18 years of the Leogane church was set aside to remind everyone that God is good.

The church sang, prayed late into the night, conducted weddings, and celebrated with baptisms. Take a look at the pictures posted about the church celebration on Facebook and Instagram.

Featuring: Cintia Syvèla and her husband Erick

I grew up in the orphanage of Pastor Bazile. My father was one of the greatest voodoo priests in Leogane. At the age of 8, I had already become the queen of my father's household.

In 2010, after the great earthquake, I accepted Jesus and left my father's house to live in the orphanage. I suffered many devil attacks causing many problems. I managed to get married. I could not have children despite following the medical Doctor's recommendations. My father said I would never have children because he made many voodoo sacrifices to prevent pregnancy. After 8 years of marriage, God gave us a daughter named Rebecca Syvéla.

My husband's name is Erick Syvéla, he works as a driver for Haiti Empowerd. I am in charge of the prison ministry. I am also the pastor of the ladies in our church. I have great faith in Jesus. I love to sing a combat song familiar to soldiers. It talks about our sworn duty is in our hands, and we will destroy every
obstacle in our path.

That's why I love this verse so much, "Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil." -Ephesians 6.11

People

Hi my name is Manoucheca Clerjou. I am a young woman who grew up in the orphanage of Pastor Bazile.

I entered an orphanage at 4 years old. It is in the area called Coteaux far from the city of Cayes. I didn't know my father and my mother couldn't help me. She had several
other children and was overwhelmed. For my education, I started going to a Haiti Empowered school. This year, after graduating I want to be an intern and work in the medical laboratory that is being finished. This is exciting to be able to use my education to help other students and my community.

Thank you Haiti Empowered and thank you to all the supporters who helped me to have and realize a dream in my life."

Leader's note: Manoucheca is a very kind woman that did very well in school. She really wants to help people by working in the medical profession.

Journey

Our trade schools are now in session. We started with
plumbing, sewing, and electrical training. We are using some best practices of hands-on training and "cut-aways", allowing them to learn through practice and real
life scenarios.

This also allows us to reuse some of the materials for the next classes. It will be fun to see uniforms made in our trade school by students. We are equipping them to be able to do work in the community and also for Mission E4.

Projects

We are excited and pleased with the leadership of our hard-working construction crew. The cement for the second floor of the high school is being set and we are looking forward to the walls going up.

The roof will be built to collect water for multiple sustainable uses. This will control run-off from heavy rains that frequently occur.

Check out our Facebook link for a video featuring these stairs. They is an interesting engineering feat.
