Haiti Update
Thankfully,
Our programs in the Leogane area are all doing well.
Our schools are open and the students are enthusiastically learning in a safe environment.
Gifts to provide solar capabilities has allowed our clinic and headquarters to remain fully functional depite fuel shortages.
We are fully able to wire funds, as usual, to the branch office of Sogebank in Cassange.
Donors are helping with additional funds to cover significant cost increases for food and fuel, due to the unrest. Thank you! This is an ongoing need,
Unfortunately,
The violence and lack of safety since the first week of February are intense in the Port-Au-Prince area
Some Haiti empowered staff live closer to Port-au-Prince and often get caught in gang cross fire.
Most flights have been suspended, with only occasional supply flights operating. We haven’t been able to pick up items in Port-Au-Prince for a month .
A Haitian appointed team (“council of 7”) is working on a short and longer term leader selection. The members have changed due to politics but hopefully will be able to come together to select a new leader.
As food has become a critical resource, gangs have started moving into farm land.
