Chrismael & James
Chrismael’s Story
Chrismael was invited to our schools when he was 7 years old. He grew up near Port-au-Prince, but decided to move to the Cassange area and live with his grandma to attend school. This allowed Chrismael to be able to walk to school, making it easier to attend classes every day.
Chrismael is a very social and creative person. His teachers quickly recognized that he brought a lot of humor to the class, while also being easy going and a calming presence during stressful times. He was a good student academically and excelled with everything creative. When he graduated, we welcomed him onto our media and communications team, where he showcased his natural talent for photography and videography. A lot of the website content you see from Haiti was captured by Chrismael!
Recently, he received a promotion to provide administrative support for our Superintendent. This role fits naturally with his skills and interests. It also gives him the opportunity to connect with all of the students, teachers and directors across our schools.
James’ Story
James joined our school at the age of 5. He lived only with his mother, as his father wasn’t in the picture. They struggled financially, having no money for school and barely enough for food. Despite his struggles at home, his teachers saw that he was very smart and loved school!
James loved helping tutor the other students that weren’t as quick to learn. Some of his favorite subjects were math and science. When he began school he was just happy to have food and be able to attend school with his friends! As he progressed in school, he began to dream about what he might be able to do with his life, thanks to his education. He was usually surrounded by many other students during school, because of his relational skills and willingness to help others.
Today, he works as a teacher and a translator for children's letters. He has a passion for helping kids learn, and enjoys connecting with each child to share their stories through letters. Thanks to James, you can read the letters your sponsored children send to you!
